Dec. 6, 2011 10:16 A.M. (Updated: Dec. 6, 2011 5:38 P.M.)
EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma'an) -- An man was shot dead and three others injured on Monday evening when Egyptian police opened fire on a group of migrants trying to enter Israel, Egyptian security officials said.

Egyptian security sources told Ma'an that border police spotted four people along the border and fired warning shots to disperse them. The migrants ignored the shots, and Egyptian forces fired at them.

The group, believed to be Eritrean migrants, were trying to cross the border 15 kilometers north of the Taba crossing, security sources said.

Three men were transferred to a hospital in El-Arish to be treated for their injuries.
