Report: Jordanian accused of planning Israeli diplomat kidnap

Aug. 25, 2011 12:59 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 26, 2011 7:28 P.M.)
TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- Prosecutors accused a 28-year-old Jordanian national of working with Hamas to plan attacks on Israelis, in charges filed at an Israeli court Thursday, Israeli news site Ynet reported.

Hamza Mahmood Yusuf Usman was detained in the West Bank in July, the report said.

Lawyers charge him with joining Hamas in 2009, and together planning to kidnap an Israeli diplomat in Amman and attack the embassy, as well as launch rockets into Israel.

Israel's Petah Tikva District Court received the indictment for "contact with a foreign agent, being a member of an illegal organization, taking part in illegal military training, conspiring and other firearm offenses," Ynet said.
