'Miles of Smiles' aid convoy to enter Gaza

Aug. 16, 2011 2:01 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 17, 2011 1:04 P.M.)
EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma’an) -- An aid convoy arrived in the Egyptian port city of Alexandria on Tuesday, head of the red crescent in the northern Egyptian Sinai said.

Jaber Al-Arabi told Ma'an that the "Miles of Smiles" aid convoy would enter the Gaza Strip later on Tuesday via the Rafah crossing.

Another similar convoy will be transferred to Gaza on August 26, he added.

The Palestinian Red Crescent are making preparations to receive the aid convoy and the Red Crescent in El-Arish said it had received 10 fully equipped ambulances on Tuesday.

A similar aid convoy set sail for Gaza in June 2011. The name of the convoy reportedly originates from traveling thousands of miles in order to put a smile on the faces of Gaza children.
