BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics released a demographic study Thursday which showed that young people form one third of the Palestinian population.

The results were published on the eve of International Youth Day and present statistics about the Palestinian population, above all about the young demographic.

Results showed that around 45 percent of young people (15-29) were enrolled in education in 2010, with one fifth of graduates studying business and administration.

Almost 50 percent of young people do not read newspapers and magazines and more than one quarter of male youth smoke.

One third of young people were unemployed during the first quarter of 2011, the study found.

The highest unemployment rate was 38.4 percent in the 20-24 age group compared with 28.2 percent for 25-29. In addition, 40.1 percent of those unemployed had completed at least 13 years of education.
