NABLUS (Ma’an) -- Families of prisoners affiliated with Hamas and detained in Palestinian Authority prisons held a sit-in Saturday in the West Bank city of Nablus, to demand the release of their loved ones.
The participants carried banners demanding the release of prisoners without conditions, particularly as the month of Ramadan is approaching. Some carried banners saying the issue was vital for reconciliation.
Hamas lawmaker Muna Mansour said that “releasing the prisoners is the only way forward for Palestinian conciliation and is one our basic rights.”
She added: "The prisoners should be released to spend Ramadan with their families and relatives”
Muhanad Ar-Rabi, representing independent lawmakers, said “it is necessary to have steps on the ground toward ending the prisoners’ issue radically,” and urged President Abbas to release prisoners during Ramadan.
