QALQILIYA (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces on Tuesday detained five Palestinians from the northern West Bank town of Azzun after ransacking their homes, witnesses said.

Locals said troops raided the town at around 1 a.m. They identified those detained as Samir Sahir Shelo, 13, Ahmad Basim Shbeita, 17, Othman Samir Shelo, 22, Muath Bilal Sweidan, 19, and Yousif Hussein Shbeita, 49.

The detainees were taken to an unknown location. Relatives said they received phone calls from Israel's Civil Administration asking them to go to Ariel settlement.

Israel detained around 20 Palestinians in Azzun in June, most of whom were aged 14 - 23.

An army representative said soldiers arrested 11 Palestinians throughout the West Bank overnight.
