UNRWA employees in Gaza announce strike

May 16, 2011 10:12 P.M. (Updated: May 16, 2011 10:12 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- UNRWA employees in Gaza will go on strike for several hours on Monday evening to protest the firing of their colleagues, the UN workers' union said.

Union chief Salim Al-Hindi said a comprehensive 2-day strike would begin Wednesday, including around 11,000 employees from all departments of the agency, which provides services for Palestinian refugees.

Al-Hindi said the strike was called because UNRWA refused to reinstate dismissed employees.
