Israeli tanks open fire in northern Gaza

April 17, 2011 5:15 P.M. (Updated: April 18, 2011 11:23 A.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Several Israeli army tanks entered northern Gaza on Sunday and opened fire, witnesses said.

No injuries were reported, but residents said fields sustained heavy damage from the tanks' caterpillar tread, which ripped through crops.

Earlier Sunday, Israeli warships opened fire on fishermen off the coast of Gaza.

An Israeli military spokesperson did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
