Israel delivers demolition orders in south Hebron

Jan. 20, 2011 5:28 P.M. (Updated: Jan. 20, 2011 9:09 P.M.)
HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli Civil Administration officials handed out Wednesday what residents said were five demolition orders for homes in the southern West Bank village of Susiya.

The homes, made of canvas, wood and aluminum, were said by the Civil Administration to have been erected without a permit, residents reported.

Head of the village committee against land confiscations Yaser Al-Jubur said commanders said the families ordered to leave were living across the valley from Susiya North West, an illegal Israeli settlement outpost built on Palestinian lands belonging to the adjacent town of Yatta.

The families affected were identified by their heads of house as Issa Husein Al-Jubur, Mohammad Husein Al-Jubur, Mahmoud Ahmad Al-Jubur, Issa Badawi Al-Jubur and Omer Badawi Al-Jubur.

Local official A’zmi Al-Shuyukhi said that with the latest demolition orders, "Israel is aiming to expel residents living east of Yatta," and cited the recent wave of demolitions hitting the area, including the demolition of 17 homes in the village of Daqiqa last week, and destruction of Bedouin water wells in the area the week before that.

Officials from the Civil Administration were not available by phone for comment.
