Fisherman injured by Israeli fire in northern Gaza

Dec. 26, 2010 11:32 A.M. (Updated: Dec. 26, 2010 7:34 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A Gaza fisherman was shot twice, once in each foot, and collected by medics from the northern Gaza shore on Saturday, witnesses said.

Medical services spokesman Adham Abu Selmieyah confirmed that medics transported a 25-year-old fisherman, identified only as AZ, to the Kamal Udwan Hospital for treatment.

The official described the injuries as light, but noted a recent spike in the number of deaths and injuries resulting from Israeli fire in the area since the beginning of December. Thirteen Palestinians have been killed, he said, and another 34 injured.

The latest incident took place in the As-Sudanieyah area off the northern Gaza shore.
