Israeli guard charged with stealing weapons

Dec. 11, 2010 12:56 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 11, 2010 8:14 P.M.)
TEL AVIV, Israel (Ma'an) -- An Israeli border guard officer has been arrested on suspicion of stealing weapons from his unit, Israeli news media reported Friday.

A Haifa court extended the remand of the officer accused of storing a large amount of arms, including grenades and even an explosive device at a cache in his home, the news site Ynet reported.

Investigators reportedly want to know if the suspect, 21, serving as an officer in Ramallah, is connected to criminal organizations or possibly had intended to sell the arms.
