School closes 'to avoid Israeli raid'

Nov. 11, 2010 11:30 A.M. (Updated: Nov. 12, 2010 9:51 P.M.)
QALQILIYA (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces surrounded a school in the northern West Bank to prevent students from marking the anniversary of the death of Yasser Arafat, the late president.

Forces threatened to raid the school if the celebration did not immediately end, the director of education at the Jeet Male Secondary School east of Qalqiliya said. The principal said the school was evacuated.

An Israeli military spokesman said forces were responding to rock-throwing.

The school is on a main road between Qalqiliya and Nablus near the illegal Qedumim settlement.
