Relatives: 3 detained in Qalqiliya

QALQILIYA (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained three Palestinians from the Jayyus village in the northern West Bank district of Qalqiliya on Monday morning, relatives said.

Relatives said the forces also detained Wajdi Hussein Bayda, 30, and Khaled Jamil Salim, 31, were both detained from the village after Israeli forces raided the area.

The 11-year-old daughter of the third Palestinian detained, Ismail Bayda, 31, said troops entered the family home at 1 a.m., and that

she saw forces blindfold her father then lead him away.

She also said forces had searched the home, causing damage to belongings, and that the family found a burnt Qur'an they said forces had torn and set alight.

A spokeswoman for Israel's army confirmed two detentions overnight, adding that no complaint was lodged with the military or Civil Administration concerning the destruction of a Qur'an.

Meanwhile, the wife of Palestinian Authority police officer Mahmud Bayda said over 30 forces raided her home while she was alone with her two children as her husband attended a workshop.

She said forces asked her where her husband was at gunpoint and told her husband was outside in the military jeep. She added that forces told her they were searching her homes for weapons. Her husband had not been detained by forces, she said.
