BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Hamas accused Palestinian Authority forces of detaining 20 party affiliates across the West Bank overnight, a statement issued Monday read.
The Islamist movement said the PA Preventive Security Services has "escalated" its detention campaign against party members and supporters in the West Bank since it claimed responsibility for the killing of four Israeli settlers on 31 August.
According to Hamas, up to 750 supporters and members have been detained since the shooting attack and dozens others have been summoned for questioning with PA intelligence.
The PA has admitted to detaining affiliates in relation to the shooting, but said the number Hamas offered was exaggerated.
