Gaza – Ma'an – A Palestinian fisherman apparently died Wednesday after the Egyptian coast guard chased his boat off Rafah, southern Gaza, medical officials told Ma'an.

Muhammad Ibrahim Al-Bardawil, 44, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Abu Yousif An-Najjar Hospital, said Gaza medical official Adham Abu Suleimeh. His boat collided with an Egyptian vessel, Abu Suleimeh said.

Muawiya Hassanein, director of ambulance and emergency services at the Health Ministry in Gaza, told Ma'an that officials were contacting security officials to open an investigation.

Later, the de facto government in Gaza's Ministry of Agriculture and the Interior issued a statement holding the Egyptian government responsible for Al-Bardawil's death.
