Israel army raids offices of anti-wall group

Feb. 8, 2010 3:19 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 9, 2010 12:08 A.M.)
Jerusalem - Ma'an - The Israeli army raided the offices of the Stop the Wall organization in Ramallah early Monday morning.

Ten military jeeps, hummers and an armoured bus belonging to the Israeli military and intelligence services entered Ramallah at 1am, the group said in a statement.

Follwing a three-hour search, soldiers confiscated computer hard disks, laptops, and video cameras along with paper documents, CDs, and video cassettes, the organization said.

"This is part of the continuous targeting of the popular grassroots movement and the struggle of the Palestinian human rights defenders for Israeli accountability," said Jamal Juma, coordinator of Stop the Wall.

But the movement's supporters "will not be intimidated by this," Juma added, insisting that it would continue its efforts until a 2004 ruling by the International Criminal Court on the wall's illegality is enforced.

There are approximately 40 anti-wall activists in Israeli jails, he said.

Approached by Ma'an, an Israeli military spokesman said that overnight, "IDF soldiers operating in Ramallah confiscated equipment from the offices of the anti-fence popular committee, which rallies illegal and violent riots throughout Judea and Samaria and calls to hurt IDF soldiers and the security fence."

"The IDF will continue to operate in order to protect the citizens of Israel and Israel's security forces," he added.
