Qalandiya stabbing suspect identified

Bethlehem – Ma'an – The woman who Israel says stabbed a guard at a Ramallah military checkpoint on Sunday evening was identified as Sumoud Hasan Karaja, 21, from the village of Saffa, local sources told Ma'an.

Karaja family members said Israeli forces besieged Sumoud's family home in the village and told relatives that their daughter attempted to kill an Israeli soldier.

The soldiers inspected her home and questioned family members before they withdrew, according to onlookers. Teenagers hurled stones at the Israeli forces in the village, but no injuries were reported.

Israeli forces detained Karaja for questioning after a guard was found stabbed in the abdomen at the Qalandiya checkpoint leading to East Jerusalem on Sunday evening, according to a military spokesperson.

The guard's injuries were described as moderate.
