Israel: Two mortar shells land near Erez crossing

Aug. 9, 2009 9:07 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 10, 2009 2:39 P.M.)
Bethlehem – Ma’an/Agencies – Israel said that Palestinians fired two mortar shells toward the Erez border crossing at the northern end of the Gaza Strip on Sunday evening, causing no injuries.

According to news reports, the shells landed on the southern, Palestinian side of the crossing.

Ma’an received no claim of responsibility for the reported attack from any Palestinian group.

The report comes after a homemade Palestinian projectile fired landed on the Israeli side of the Gaza border early on Sunday morning.

Hamas authorities in Gaza have subdued Palestinian armed groups in the Gaza Strip, all but eliminating such attacks since Israel’s three-week assault last winter.
