PFLP-affiliated militants launch projectiles toward Ashkelon

Nov. 22, 2008 11:26 A.M. (Updated: Nov. 22, 2008 11:26 A.M.)
Gaza - Ma'an - A militant group associated with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) claimed responsibility for an attack on an Israeli city Saturday morning, according to a statement received by Ma'an.

The Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, a militant wing of the PFLP, claimed it fired two projectiles toward the Israeli city of Ashkelon, near Gaza, on Saturday.

According to the group's statement, the assault was "in retaliation for ongoing Israeli atrocities in the Gaza Strip."

Earlier, Fatah's Al-Aqsa Brigades claimed that a group of fighters had detonated a roadside bomb near an Israeli patrol in the northern Gaza Strip city of Beit Hanoun.

The group said in a statement that the fighters who carried out the attack had returned unharmed. They asserted that the operation came in retaliation "for ongoing Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people."
