Hamas' armed wing will "blow up the truce" if Israel kills leaders

Nov. 19, 2008 3:03 P.M. (Updated: Nov. 19, 2008 3:03 P.M.)
Gaza - Ma'an - The armed wing of Hamas threatened on Wednesday to "blow up" the truce agreement with Israel if it kills Hamas leaders has threatened by certain Israeli leaders.

Abu Ubaidah the spokesperson of Al-Qassam Brigades said: "Israeli threats and calls to carry out wide-scale aggressive operations in Gaza Strip are nothing but an attempt to console themselves after the projectile attacks they received from resistance factions especially Al-Qassam."

The five-month-old Egyptian-brokered truce has been eroded by two weeks of cross-border violence that began with a deadly Israeli invasion of Gaza on 4 November. 16 Palestinians and no Israelis have been killed.

"Projectiles launched by Al-Qassam inform a message for Israel that they are ready to blow up that truce and will never regret it," he added.

Calling the assassination threats a sign of "weakness," Abu Ubaidah said his fighters would protect Palestinian leaders.

Israeli Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz called last week for Israel to assassinate leaders in the Hamas government in Gaza in response to homemade rockets fired out of Gaza.
