Egypt to Israel: Hamas pledged to stop launching shells from Gaza

Nov. 16, 2008 9:13 A.M. (Updated: Nov. 16, 2008 9:13 A.M.)
Bethlehem - Ma'an - Egypt told Israel that Hamas pledged to stop launching shells and homemade projectiles towards Israeli targets bordering the Gaza Strip, according to the Hebrew press on Sunday.

The Egyptian announcement came after several shuttle-diplomacy meetings between head of Israeli security Amos Gilad, and director of Egyptian intelligence Omar Sulaiman last weekend.

Egypt also announced that it urged all Palestinian factions in the Strip to extend the 19 June ceasefire.

Israeli daily newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said a homemade projectile fired from the northern Gaza Strip recently hit an Israeli security firm causing material damage. The projectile has not been claimed.
