Zahhar: Hamas still committed to Gaza ceasefire

Nov. 15, 2008 9:05 A.M. (Updated: Nov. 15, 2008 9:05 A.M.)
Bethlehem - Ma'an - The truce established between Hamas and Israel has not ended, according to a Hamas leader on Friday, Mahmoud Zahhar.

"The ball is now in Israel's court, and Israelis should make it clear whether they want the ceasefire to continue or not," Zahhar said.

In response to the Israeli airstrikes and ground attacks, Palestinian fighters have begun to launch homemade rockets into areas bordering Gaza for the first time in months.

The Israel-Hamas ceasefire theoretically ends on 19 January, though both sides have indicated an interest in maintaining it further into 2009.
