Deif: Hamas' armed wing will strike 'Israeli occupation' again

Nov. 4, 2008 1:31 P.M. (Updated: Nov. 4, 2008 1:31 P.M.)
Gaza - Ma'an - Hamas military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades will continue to strike the Israeli occupation, in the form of "qualitative operations," according to a statement on Monday by Muhammad Deif, the group's leader.

Deif rarely makes public statements.

By invoking "qualitative operations," analysts believe Deif is calling for attacks on a larger scale than the homemade rockets that Palestinians launched at Israel from Gaza in recent years.

Hamas is currently observing an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire with Israel.

In a speech commemorating killing of Fawzi Abu Al-Qari, one of the Al-Qassam's leaders, Deif said, "Fawzi, the leader left behind hundreds of leaders who follow after his steps. We are a people who believe real rest is in paradise. In this mortal world, we have to struggle and struggle until we either die martyrs or achieve victory. We are God's destiny on this holy land created to pursue God's enemies of the Zionists until God's will comes true."

Deif applauded Fawzi Abu Al-Qari who trained fedavees (those who sacrifice their lives for their country and people). He pointed out that Abu Al-Qari had planned operations inside Israel including one at Ashdod terminal, the operation carried out by Reem Ar-Riyashi, the operation against Israeli military jeeps in Beit Hanoun and the operation at Israeli settlement of Eli Sinai among others.
