Israeli troops, settlers scuffle near evacuated Hebron outpost

Oct. 29, 2008 1:28 P.M. (Updated: Oct. 29, 2008 1:28 P.M.)
Bethlehem - Ma'an - Scuffles between Israeli soldiers and settlers took place overnight near a West Bank settlement outpost near Hebron that the military dismantled earlier in the week, Israeli sources reported.

The Israeli army went to the "Friedman" outpost again on Tuesday night, after demolishing it on Sunday. Settlers had already erected two new houses since the demolition. Fearing more demolitions, settlers massed on the scene, attempting to set fire to an Israeli military bulldozer.

The Israeli news site Walla reported that the confrontation continued until dawn when the Israeli troops withdrew.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is scheduled to meet with high-level Israeli security officials to discuss a recent upsurge of settler violence, particularly against occupying Israeli forces in the West Bank.
