Expired peaches imported from Israel, seized by PA

Oct. 15, 2008 8:38 P.M. (Updated: Oct. 15, 2008 8:38 P.M.)
Jenin - Ma'an - Palestinian Authority (PA) officials seized and destroyed three tons of expired peaches in Jenin on Wednesday, the head of a local department said.

Officials from the PA Department of Consumption in Jenin told Ma'an that the agency had been investigating vegetable and fruit markets in the northern West Bank city prior to the seizures.

Ziad Mass'ad said the expired fruit had been imported from Israel, but that expired produce was "confiscated and destroyed."

"We're always doing our best to protect Palestinians' health," he added.
