400 patients to be allowed through Rafah Saturday; restrictions apply to others stranded

Aug. 29, 2008 5:09 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 29, 2008 5:09 P.M.)
Gaza - Ma'an - The de facto ministry of interior said on Friday that only Gazan 400 patients will be allowed to leave on Sunday for treatment through the Rafah border crossing, as well as others, who must meet strict criteria before being allowed to cross.

The ministry added that the names of the patients will be announced within hours on the ministry website (currently availible on Ma'an's Arabic website), but assured that Egyptians stuck in Gaza with proper papers will also be allowed through.

The spokesperson of the administration of crossings in the de facto ministry Mohamad Adwan said "the de facto ministry had established criteria for those seeking to leave through the Rafah crossing [to Egypt]." The criteria will include Egyptian nationals, carriers of valid Palestinian travel documents, valid Egyptian residency cards or foreign passports. Those carrying the "non-barring cards" issued by Jordan will not be allowed through, since this is not a travel document valid for Egypt.

Further restrictions will be made clear on Saturday.

Adwan advised all those who fit the above criteria and are seeking entrance into Egypt to gather in the Abu Yousef An-Najjar sports stadium in front of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on Saturday.
