Gaza: weekly shipment of cooking gas consumed in one day

Aug. 4, 2008 1:17 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 4, 2008 1:17 P.M.)
Gaza - Ma'an - Quantities of cooking gas being shipped to the Gaza Strip are less than 30% of basic need, said deputy head of the federation of gas distributors in the Gaza Strip, Mahmoud Al-Khizindar on Monday.

Al-Khizindar told Ma'an that pressure must be exerted on Israel to increase quantities of fuel transferred into the area. This is especially pressing now, he added, since the holy month of Ramadan is approaching and families use more cooking oil to prepare the fast-breaking meals at sundown.

Israel ships 120 thousand liters of benzene into Gaza per week, which is the amount consumed in one day; 1.2 million liters of diesel for vehicles per week is transferred in, which is consumed in 3 days. 2.0 million liters of industrial diesel is shipped in for running the power generating company.

Fuel shipments into Gaza for the coming week began early Monday morning, although Al-Khizindar had no word on whether quantities have been increased from the past weeks.
