Teenager critically injured in clan clashes in Hebron

Hebron - Ma'an - A 13-year-old Palestinian boy from Hebron in the southern West Bank was hit in the head by a stray bullet during clan clashes between two rival Hebron clans on Wednesday .

Safwat As-Salayma is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of Al-Ahli hospital in Hebron. The bullet penetrated his brain, the hospital's public relations office said.

The As-Salayma family say they hold the warring clans responsible for Safwat's injury, which they say was caused "as a result of recklessness by clashing family members."

Residents of Hebron appealed to both belligerent clans to stop the ongoing armed clashes and to solve their differences through dialogue.

The southern neighborhood of Hebron, which is under Israeli security control, on Tuesday evening witnessed armed clashes between members of two extended clans following the murder of a member of one of the clans. Several people were injured and shops and houses were set ablaze.

Crossfire continued into the night despite a curfew which the Israeli forces imposed on the neighborhood.
