Hamas announces PLC list for Tulkarem District

Dec. 7, 2005 4:53 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 7, 2005 4:53 P.M.)
Ma'an Tulkarem - Hamas announced its PLC candidate list in the Tulkarem District on Wednesday.

During a press conference, a spokesman described the movement's participation in the PLC elections as "coming in the frame of the liberation of Palestine, the right to return, support of resistance and an end to the occupation."

Heading the list in Tulkarem is Abdul Rahman Fahmi Zaidan. Following him on the list is current political prisoner Fat'hi Mohammad Karowi. Also running on the Hamas ticket are Riad Mohammad Radad, and Sheikh Nasouah Barham.

The general Hamas lists include several women. One in Tulkarem is the wife of an imprisoned Hamas member.

Ikhlas Abdel Al Sayed's husband Abbas Al Sayed is in prison for leadership in Al Qassam Brigades, the armed resistance wing of Hamas.

Current Deputy PLC head Hassan Khraishah is part of the list. He attributed his presence on the list to the fact that he "did not find any faction as unique or as capable as Hamas."

Khraishah vowed to continue fighting corruption in the PA and PLC if he is elected to the legislative body once again.
