Israeli forces suppress protest in Ramallah-area village

Sept. 14, 2018 4:52 P.M. (Updated: Sept. 14, 2018 5:36 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Several Palestinians suffered tear-gas inhalation as Israeli forces suppressed the weekly protest in the Ras Karkar village in western Ramallah in the central West Bank, on Friday.

Dozens of residents of the Ras Karkar village and surrounding villages, in addition to solidarity activists, both Palestinian and international, joined the protest and performed Friday prayers on lands threatened of confiscation in the village as part of Israel's plans to expand illegal settlements in the area.

Protesters also planned the land with olive tree saplings as a way to stress their refusal to leave the lands.

Israeli forces suppressed the sit-in using rubber-coated steel bullets, tear-gas bombs and stun grenades, causing tear-gas suffocation among several protesters.

Last week, five Palestinians were injured by Israeli rubber-coated steel bullets during the weekly Ras Karkar protest.
