RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian Prisoners and Former Prisoners Affairs' Committee confirmed that tensions intensified, on Thursday, after a large number of Israeli suppression forces of the Israeli Prison Services (IPS) stormed section 3 of the Israeli Ashkelon prison in central Israel.

The committee confirmed, in a report, that Israeli suppression forces had raided Ashkelon, on Wednesday, carried out provocative searches and damaged belongings of Palestinian prisoners, as well as disarranged their beds.

The committee said that a series of sanctions were imposed on the prisoners, including preventing them access to the toilet and closing the prison's cafeteria.

The raid began at 5:30 a.m. and lasted until 3:00 p.m.;o injuries were reported.

There are currently 50 Palestinian prisoners held in the Israeli Ashkelon prison; Israeli suppression forces have regularly used overnight raids, confiscation of personal belongings and forcible prison transfers to suppress resistance among Palestinian prisoners.
