July 12, 2018 2:13 P.M. (Updated: July 13, 2018 10:46 A.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- A member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Azzam al-Ahmad, confirmed that the delegation of the Hamas movement arrived on Wednesday to the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

The invitation to hold talks in Cairo with the Hamas movement was in light of an agreement with Egyptian officials and the report of the Gaza Committee formed by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

While speaking to the “Voice of Palestine” radio station, al-Ahmad said that Egyptian officials described the report as “objective” expressing hope that the Hamas delegation to Cairo be objective.

He continued saying that the final answer on Hamas’ position will be announced by the Egyptian leadership, and it will define their next stepsas they prepare for the Palestinian Central Council (PCC) which is the second highest decision-making body of the PLO.

Hamas had issued a statement calling for the discussions of developments in the region and for the Palestinian dialogue to resume.

In Cairo, the talks are expected to focus on reaching an agreement with Israel and on attempts to revive the Palestinian reconciliation agreement.

The Hamas delegation from Gaza was headed by Dr. Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the movement's political bureau.

According to official sources in Hamas, a senior delegation from the Hamas leadership from abroad will arrive in Cairo on Thursday, headed by Deputy Head of the Political Bureau Saleh al-Arouri and members of Dr. Moussa Abu Marzouk, Izzat al-Rashq, Hussam Badran, and Rohi Mushtahe.
