BEIJING (Ma'an) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Beijing on Monday morning for an official three-day visit to China to meet with Chinese president Xi Jinping, according to official Palestinian Authority (PA) news agency Wafa.

Abbas was received by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wang Yi and a number of officials.

The Palestinian head of state is scheduled to meet with Xi on Tuesday to discuss recent developments in the Middle East and ongoing Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Abbas is accompanied on this trip by Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, advisor for economic affairs and chairman of the Palestinian Investment Fund Muhammad Mustafa, Supreme Judge Mahmoud al-Habbash, official presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh, diplomatic advisor Majdi al-Khalidi, official media supervisor Ahmad Assaf, and ambassador to China Fariz Mahdawi.

Al-Maliki had met with Wang in April, when Wang reiterated the Chinese government’s commitment to the establishment of a Palestinian state, calling the current lack of such a state a “terrible injustice.”
