PAKISTAN (Ma'an) -- Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas met with Pakistani President Mamnun Hussain on Tuesday following the inauguration of the Palestinian embassy in Islamabad earlier in the day.

Abbas reportedly updated the Pakistani president on the latest developments in Palestine, and the experiences of Palestinians living under the nearly half century Israeli occupation.

Abbas highlighted Israeli settlement activities and the continued practice of Israeli settlers taking over Palestinian lands.

Following the meeting, another session was held and joined by the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Abbas’ Islamic Affairs Councilor Mahmoud al-Habbash, spokesperson for the presidency Nabil Abu Rudeineh, Abbas’ Diplomatic Affairs Councilor Majdi al-Khaldi, and Palestine’s Ambassador to Pakistan Walid Abu Ali, in addition to several Pakistani officials.

The meetings were part of Abbas’ three-day visit to Pakistan which commenced on Monday.

Earlier in the day, PA-owned news agency Wafa reported that Abbas and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony and raised the flag of Palestine in the presence of a Palestinian delegation and Pakistani officials.
