Gunshots reportedly fired at Israeli forces near Qalandiya

May 17, 2016 11:36 A.M. (Updated: May 17, 2016 7:06 P.M.)

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Gunshots were reportedly fired at the vehicle of an Israeli border guard on Tuesday near the Qalandiya checkpoint in the district of Ramallah in the northern West Bank, according to an Israeli police spokesperson.

The gunshots reportedly struck the body of the guard’s vehicle, Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said, adding that no officers were injured in the incident.

Al-Samri said police and border guards were investigating the incident.

Israeli border police were not available for comment on Tuesday.

The recent wave of unrest in the occupied territory since October has been marked by a surge of small-scale attacks carried out by Palestinian individuals -- predominantly on Israeli military targets -- which have left nearly 30 Israelis and more than 200 Palestinians dead.
