Israeli forces detain Palestinian children, aged 7 and 8, in Jerusalem

Nov. 2, 2015 1:51 P.M. (Updated: Nov. 2, 2015 1:51 P.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces briefly detained two Palestinian children, aged seven and eight-years-old, in the Shufat neighborhood north of Jerusalem on Sunday, relatives told Ma'an.

The mother of seven-year-old Yusif Hasan Abu Khdeir said that her son and eight-year-old Omar Muhammad Abu Khdeir were detained outside their home for allegedly having slingshots.

She said they were taken to Neve Yaakov police station in Beit Hanina, and later released without being interrogated.

The children's families said they were only playing when they were detained.

Israeli forces have come under repeated criticism for their treatment of Palestinian children. Last week, prisoners' rights group Addameer reported that at least 147 children were detained by Israeli forces in October.
