'Freedom Flotilla III' to embark for Gaza this summer

May 1, 2015 9:39 A.M. (Updated: May 1, 2015 4:08 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Three ships are prepared to embark for the Gaza Strip this summer in a humanitarian mission called "Freedom Flotilla III," the coordinator of the international coalition to break the siege on Gaza Berawi Zaher said in a statement Friday.

He explained in a press statement that the departure time and launch locations of the fleet will not be released in effort to prevent Israeli authorities from exerting pressure on countries involved in the operation.

Final logistical arrangements for the flotilla are to be made in Greece next month.

The flotilla campaign is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition in effort to bring relief to the 1.8 million Palestinians living under blockade in the Gaza Strip.

The coastal enclave has been under severe economic and military blockade by Israel since 2006, the strip sealed on three sides by Israel and the south end of the strip facing frequent closure by Egypt.

"The humanitarian situation in Gaza is more critical than ever and is worsening by the day. Media apathy and inaction by most governments puts the burden on civil society organizations, as ourselves, to take the lead in challenging the blockade," FFC stated at the time.

"Our flotillas will continue to sail until the illegal blockade of Gaza is permanently lifted."

A range of political, religious, economic and public figures are expected to participate in the flotilla, including former Tunisian President Muncef al-Marzouki

The flotilla will be the third of its kind since 2010, when the first Freedom Flotilla was brutally attacked by Israel naval forces, killing nine activists on board the ships.

The incident, which took place in international waters, sparked international outcry.

A second flotilla planned for 2011 was unable to reach Gaza after Greek authorities prevented the ships from leaving Athens.

Why don't they go to Nepal and see what a REAL humanitarian crisis looks like.

Nepal is receiving offers of help from around the world, which is good. You, David, are cruel to object to anyone wanting to help the Gazans. What was done to Nepal was done by nature. The destruction of Gazan was done by military thugs.

David say's no 'REAL' humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Is David a human being or a bot?

David is a clear example of what is wrong with Israel and why the International Community needs to intervene and force Two States immediately. What Israel gets away with is truly repulsive.

If Hamas is really interested in ending suffering of the Gazan people let them
throw the wappons over the security fence to Israel and next morning the
siege will be lifted and "Freedom Flotilla III" may proceed back to Med to
rescue refugees on the way to Europe.

Lois, military thugs otherwise known as Hamas. It is time to put the blame for suffering in Gaza where it really belongs and stop blaming Israel for everything.

If Gaza truly wants the restrictions to end, Hamas will remove the vow to destroy Israel from its charter, it will ban all militant groups, it will begin the process of eliminating offensive weapons like missiles and it will move to normalize relations with Israel, including exchanging envoys.

Lois / NZ. What happened to Nepal was as a result of natural forces beyond man's control. The destruction and devastation heaped on Gaza was brought on to itself by Palestinian leadership since Yaasar Arafat all the way up to Hamas.

Unless the Marianne, and other ships, heading to Gaza accept being diverted, IT WILL NOT BE A PEACEFUL, NON-VIOLENT ACTION,
and next time Israel should start enforcing international law, which allows confiscating the ships, that illegally try to break the blockade of Gaza !!
