PA confirms ban on purchasing used cars from Israel

Dec. 1, 2014 9:55 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 1, 2014 9:55 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma’an) – The Palestinian ministry of transportation reiterated on Monday that purchasing used cars from Israel would remain prohibited.

The remarks came in a statement in response to a report published on local Palestinian media outlets which claimed the Palestinian Authority would soon allow purchase of used cars from Israel in the Gaza Strip.

The statement said that the Palestinian Authority’s decision has been effective since mid-1997. The Israeli authorities, added the statement, refused to return the original custom taxes of used cars to the PA if the latter allows its citizens to buy them from Israel.

The statement pointed out that there are more than 30 authorized agencies in Palestine which provided new vehicles in addition to some 200 companies which import used cars. Those companies and agencies import about 15,000 new and used cars every year and that covers the market needs, according to the statement.
