Palestinian shot, injured in northern Gaza

April 30, 2014 9:03 P.M. (Updated: May 17, 2014 6:23 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian laborer was shot and injured on Wednesday evening in the northern Gaza Strip.

A Ma’an reporter said Israeli guards in a watchtower at the Erez checkpoint opened fire at a Palestinian laborer in his 20s.

Medics said he was shot in the foot and was in moderate condition.

An Israeli army spokesman told Ma'an that soldiers fired toward Palestinians who approached a security post.

He said about 20 Palestinians approached the post, prompting soldiers to use riot-dispersal means to break up the crowd. He said they first left but soon some of them returned.

Soldiers opened fire toward a Palestinian's lower extremities and identified a hit, he said.
