Palestinian teenager suspected of assaulting soldier detained in Jaffa

JAFFA (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian teenager from the West Bank in connection with the assault of an Israeli soldier in Jaffa.

The teenager, 16, was in Jaffa without a permit at the time of the incident, he is currently under interrogation.

Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samari said that around 7 p.m. on Friday evening the soldier, a 20-year-old from Ashkelon, was hit in the face on Yehuda Hemet Street in Jaffa. She added that the perpetrator was a young man who had fled the scene.

Later a Palestinian teenager was detained, and it turned out that he was from the West Bank did not have a permit to enter Israel.

Police said the teenager's involvement in the incident is still unclear.
