2 gunmen killed as Egyptian army raids strongholds in Sinai

EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma’an) -- Two gunmen were killed and eight others were injured Monday in North Sinai district as Egyptian forces continued a crackdown against strongholds of suspected militant groups in the Sinai Peninsula.

Egyptian security sources told Ma’an in el-Arish that Egyptian forces raided strongholds across Rafah, Sheikh Zuweid and el-Arish cities and surrounding villages in the North Sinai district.

The sources highlighted that Egyptian troops clashed with a group of gunmen killing two and arresting eight others.

Military helicopters joined Monday’s security campaign during which six houses, 13 hideouts, two vehicles and eight motorcycles belonging to Sinai militant groups were destroyed.
