Activist: Israeli forces detain teen in Beit Ummar

Oct. 14, 2012 12:57 P.M. (Updated: Oct. 15, 2012 10:25 A.M.)
HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian teenager in Hebron town Beit Ummar overnight, local activists said, noting that he suffers from a chronic condition.

Baha Muhammad Khalil Awad, 17, was detained from his home in the Bayada district in a dawn raid by over 20 soldiers, popular committee spokesman Muhammad Ayad Awad said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed one person was detained in Beit Ummar overnight, and said another was arrested in Ramallah-town Birzeit.

Muhammad Ayad Awad said the teen's parents are deeply concerned about his health as he suffers from arthritis and needs daily cortisone treatment.

The committee spokesman said the Baha's detention came after Israeli forces blocked a demonstration against teen arrests in Beit Ummar on Saturday, in which three were wounded in clashes with soldiers near the Karmi Zur settlement.
